Animal Crossing: New Horizons Guide – How To Get A Wet Suit & Swim

Now that the first part of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Summer Update is live, players can explore the ocean by swimming and diving underwater.

However, before you can start making waves and collecting sea creatures, you’ll need to unlock the wet suit, preferably a stylish one.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to get a wet suit and snorkel as well as explain how swimming and diving work in New Horizons.

How To Get A Wet Suit

Animal Crossing How To Get A Wet Suit

Before you can get a wet suit, you have to first make sure your game is updated to the latest version, since diving was added with the 1.3.0 patch. Once you have the update installed, start up the game as you normally would. Next, check your mailbox for a letter from Nook Inc. informing you that the water around your island has been cleared for swimming.

Now head over to Nook’s Cranny to get yourself a wet suit. You can find wet suits for sale inside the same cabinet that you open to buy tools, flower seeds, DIY recipes, and various other miscellaneous items.

There are multiple wet suit designs, so make sure to check back each day for a new one. Below we’ve provided a list of each one.

There are a total of 9 wet suit designs in ACNH, including horizontal-striped and leaf variations. Wet suits can be purchased for 3,000 Bells each in either Nook’s Cranny or in the Special Goods section of the Nook Shopping catalog.

The last remaining wet suit can be purchased for 800 Nook Miles by visiting the Nook Stop Terminal located inside of Resident Services. After selecting and opening the ‘Redeem Nook Miles’ menu, navigate over to the ‘Novelties’ tab, or simply scroll down until you see the Nook Inc. wet suit.

While there aren’t any variations for this suit, you can pick up an optional matching snorkel for 500 Nook Miles. Bear in mind, items purchased with Nook Miles won’t arrive in your mailbox until the following day. If you can’t stand waiting that long to swim, consider buying your first wet suit from Nook’s Cranny.

How To Get A Snorkel

While not required for swimming, snorkels can help you breathe and see underwater as well as look stylish. Besides the Nook Inc. snorkel, six other snorkel designs appear as accessories in the Able Sisters clothing store for 700 Bells each.

If you want to get started on your collection early, ACNH does you the favor of gifting you a free random-colored snorkel in the mail after installing the latest update. Keep in mind that wearing a snorkel uses up your villager’s mask and glasses slots.

How To Swim

With wet suit and snorkel in tow, make your way to one of your island’s beaches. Equip both like you would any other piece of clothing before heading in the water. To get in the ocean, you can either press A while facing the sea or perform a dive bomb off of one of your island’s docks.

Once you’re floating in the water, press A and use the left analog stick to control the direction your villager swims. When you’re ready to leave the water, simply swim up to the beach and your character will walk right out. From here, you can unequip your wet suit and go back to your normal outfit.

How To Dive

While you’re out there in the ocean, be on the lookout for bubbling shadows that indicate a sea creature is nearby. Once you spot one underwater, press Y to dive down and catch it.

Similar to bugs and fish, the type of sea creatures you’ll find will depend on the season and time of year in your region.

Once your villager catches a sea creature, they’ll return to the surface on their own.

If you happen to find a Scallop, hold onto it until Pascal, the red otter, shows up. Pascal will give you unique rewards in exchange for all your Scallops.
