Steam Refund Eligibility
Before you initiate your Steam refund, you should double-check to make sure the purchase you made can still be returned. There are a few requirements you must meet for the game to be eligible for a refund. Steam will sometimes grant refunds even if these requirements aren’t met, but it’s up to the discretion of the team and not guaranteed.
The first is that your purchase needs to have been made in the last 14 days. At 15 days of purchase, the game is no longer refundable. Additionally, if you’ve played the game for longer than two hours, that can also make it lose refund eligibility.
In-game items are refundable, too. However, the time limit for these is limited to 48 hours. Additionally, some in-game items simply aren’t refundable. This is the policy of the developer and has no bearing on Steam itself.
If you are caught cheating or abusing this system in some way, Steam reserves the right to disallow you from getting a refund.
Refunding A Steam Game
Getting a refund on a steam game is pretty quick and painless. You may have to wait a week or two for your return to be processed and issued, but besides the wait time, it really couldn’t be any easier. The first thing you need to do is navigate to the Steam help page, then click Purchases. You should be logged in to your Steam account, too, if you aren’t already.
From there, the next step is to view your purchasing history.
From there, navigate through your purchase history until you find the game you want to return. Click on it, and you should see a small menu like this:
From there, just click “I would like a refund” and follow the prompts that Steam gives you. That’s all there is to it!
If you want to return an in-game item, there should be a menu option below that says, “I have a problem with a product in this purchase.” If you need a refund for an in-game item, you should be able to handle it this way.
