March is upon us and that means it’s time for a new line-up of free games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Last month, players on Xbox One were able to revisit classic titles like Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and experience the retro-inspired Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon.
So we’re here to break down what games Xbox players can look forward to playing in March. Make sure to check back regularly as we’ll be updating you on all future Games with Gold line-ups.
Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion
Available: March 1-31 (Xbox One)
Pirates of the Enchiridion is an open-world tactical-rpg based on the wildly popular Adventure Time animated series. It takes place in the same universe as the show and features beloved characters and environments depicted in 3D.
Players are able to control Finn, Jake, BMO, and Marceline as they embark on an original Adventure Time story and venture into new territories across the high seas. Gameplay revolves around exploration, turn-based combat, and upgrading each character’s abilities.
Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2
Available: March 16-April 15 (Xbox One)
Garden Warfare 2 is a third-person shooter and tower defense game. It retains many of the core mechanics from the original Garden Warfare and has the player controlling either Plant or Zombie factions and engaging in combat against the opposing side in a variety of modes.
In most of the game’s modes, players will have to build defenses and set traps in between battling waves of enemies. Garden Warfare 2 includes eight new plant and zombie classes and supports solo play, 4-player local co-op, and online multiplayer for up to 24 players.
Star Wars Republic Commando
Available: March 1-15 (Xbox One and Xbox 360)
At the start of the game, players are issued a DC-17, a versatile weapon that can be configured into an assault rifle, sniper rifle, and grenade launcher. Players can issue commands to their four squad members and assign specific tasks in order to complete objectives. During missions, players will travel across the galaxy, visiting familiar Star Wars locations like Kashyyyk and Geonosis.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Available: March 16-31 (Xbox One and Xbox 360)
Revengeance stands out from other Metal Gear games as it’s the first hack n’ slash style game in the series. The game has players controlling Raiden, a cyborg assassin looking to take down a private military company called Desperado Enforcement.
Unlike previous Metal Gear titles, where stealth is highly encouraged, Revengeance is action oriented and focuses on sword fighting to defeat enemies. Although Raiden’s main weapon is a deadly katana, the player can obtain other weapons such as daggers and rocket launchers later in the game. Revengeance features a robust combat system that allows players to perform counterattacks, combos, and flashy executions.
