Turn on Subtitles with the Subtitle Speaker Name
- Go to Settings.
- Click on Display.
- Scroll down and turn on Subtitles.
- Now turn on Subtitle Speaker Name.
And there you go! You can now clearly see who speaks and things just got a lot better already.
Turn on Auto-Aim for Horse Shootouts
We don’t feel that the game is tuned for free aim on horseback. It’s nearly impossible to aim correctly. We highly recommend that you turn on some sort of auto-aim on horseback but use free-aim on foot. This will give you the best overall gaming experience playing Red Dead Redemption 2. Here are our recommended settings:
- Lock-on Mode (On-Foot) on Free Aim.
- Lock-on Mode (Mount/Vehicle) on Normal.
- Aim-Assist Strength (Mount/Vehicle) around the middle.
Turn on Toggle To Run
Having to hold a button to run feels a bit clumsy, and we believe that setting Running Mode (On-Foot Only) to Toggle to Run will help you. Now you only have to press the button once instead of holding it down.
Enable HDR
If you have an HDR TV, you should definitely turn on HDR on this game in the Display settings. Rockstar has done an excellent job implementing HDR. The game allows you to calibrate your HDR settings to your preference.
Enable First-Person Aim Auto-Center
If you want to play the game in first-person, ensure that you turn on this setting in the Camera settings under the First-Person tab.
Turn on Tap Assist
Who likes smashing their fingers? We don’t — and you probably don’t either. So treat yourself and enable Tap Assist in the X2 setting.
We don’t recommend the Hold setting as it will make the fights boring. We found the best balance with the X2 setting as it made tapping gentler while at the same time maintaining the action.
Status Icons
We recommend tweaking the following setting in order to view your cores above the minimap at all times:
- Go to Settings.
- Click on Display.
- Scroll down and switch Status Icons to Static.
