If you spend a lot of time in front of your computer, you’ve likely run into an uncomfortable chair at some time or another. However, did you know that these chairs can actually be dangerous for you?
You can probably guess now that we were just joking with the title. It’s definitely worth the money – it’s your health we’re talking about after all!
Like all of Herman Miller’s products, the Aeron has a strong emphasis on health. Everything from its shape to its build is designed to reduce strain, making it a great investment for people who sit for several hours a day.
Now, this chair is more expensive than some others on the market but don’t let that put you off. After all, its higher initial cost is offset by your improved wellbeing. It even comes with a 12-year warranty so once you buy this, you won’t have to buy another chair for over a decade.
It’s also worth noting that if you’re self-employed, this chair can be written off as a business expense. It’s rare enough to find a chair that is as comfortable as this, but for it to lower your taxes is even better.
The Herman Miller Aeron comes in 17 different colors, and they’re all fairly neutral. While this means it isn’t a particularly flashy chair, it also ensures that it looks great regardless of the surrounding décor.
This chair comes with a tilt function and limiter, and the arms can be lowered, heightened, removed or angled outwards by up to 30°. So what else is good about the Aeron?
It boasts a special “posturefit” design. In essence, this means that it conforms to the natural curvature of your back to reduce strain and provide comfortable support, despite the low amount of padding this chair has.
Far from being uncomfortable, this lack of padding actually means great support. It also ensures that the chair won’t get less comfortable over time, like many of its rivals. It might be a little different from your current chair initially, but in a week you’ll barely notice.
The back of this chair is made of a breathable mesh, and the tapered seat shape improves circulation in your legs and thighs. This helps keep you alert and focused, even after hours of work.
One of the best things about this chair is that it’s not just good for you, but for the environment as well. More than half of it is made from recycled materials and when you eventually decide to replace it, you can recycle more than 90% of it.
The design of this chair means that it’s lighter than most. At just 48 pounds, it’s easy to move around and even more so thanks to the casters on its base. Now, let’s talk specifics.
This chair is 16” deep and 27” wide. At its lowest setting, it’s 42” tall, and of course, this can be increased to whatever is most comfortable for you. It has a recommended weight limit of 300lbs – roughly the same as an office chair with a far sturdier build.
So what is our overall opinion of the Herman Miller Aeron? Well, to be honest, we were initially a little wary of a chair that costs over $1000.
That said, we now believe that the Aeron is worth every cent. Yes, it’s pricey, but the benefits are numerous. Fewer health problems. Incredible comfort. A gorgeous design. Low environmental impact, the list goes on and on.
If you’re in a role where you sit for extended periods of time, you owe it to yourself to take care of your body.
Jobs come and jobs go, but ultimately, a high-quality chair can be the difference between productivity and frequent hospital visits. The Herman Miller Aeron can prevent these issues before they arise, and that alone is enough to warrant our recommendation.
